This month our Spotlight On questions are kindly answered by the new Chief Executive of The Piece Hall Trust, Nicola Chance-Thompson.

What’s the best bit about your job?

The wonderful and awe inspiring building I’m privileged to be given to take care of. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. I can’t wait for it to re-open and for people to be able to visit and experience it.  I would also say the fantastic team and Board of trustees I work with. They are great.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

Travelling to France or Venice and spending time with friends, family and the dogs or reading.

What’s your favourite drink if you have one: Tea

Favourite food: Italian

Favourite local restaurant / pub and why

Ricci’s place and Tapas and the Fleece at Ripponden. Great food and atmosphere.

We are really lucky to have so many talented chefs in West Yorkshire.

What’s been your most embarrassing / funny / proud / memorable experience?  (choose whichever most appropriate)

My happiest moment was when my husband and I got married. The best day of my life. This is closely followed by when I got the Chief Executive job at the Piece Hall.

Favourite Book – and the reason why?

The Shack by W.M Paul Young. It answered a lot of questions around my faith.

Desert Island Disc?

Oh gosh I am a big music lover so that’s hard! I think it would have to be Clair de Lune by Debussy. So hauntingly beautiful.

What’s at the top of your ‘must have’ experiences list still to do?

Visit the Cherry Blossom festival in Japan

Do you have any hidden talents?

Well, I can play the piano well and sing.

What excites you most about Halifax this coming year?

There is so much about to happen here with The Piece Hall, Square Chapel and the Library re opening. The council have put in a lot of very necessary investment into Calderdale and we are on the cusp of something life changing for the Borough. I am really excited to be living and working here right now.

Many thanks to Nicola for taking time out for the Skircoat Green Directory and our readers. The Piece Hall opens on the 1st August
